1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 cups sifted flour
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup water
2 cups diced raw beef
2 cups thinly sliced potatoes
1 cup thinly sliced onion
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon water
Preparation
combine 1/2 teaspoon salt with flour
cut in shortening
add 1 cup water
mix to stiff dough. knead
roll on floured suface to 1/8-inch thickess
cut in 6-inch rounds
mix beef, potatoes, onion, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and 1 tablespoon water.
place beef mixture in centers of pastry rounds
fold rounds in half
seal edges with a fork pierce small hole in top of eac pastry
bake at 400" for 20 munites
bake at 325" for 1 hour
yield about 2 dozen pasties
